Bladimir Putin was born October 7th, 1952 in Leningrad,
which was that a part of the Soviet union. He studied law at St. Petersburg
state university, and then became a KGB foreign intelligence officer. After 16
years, he retired and decided to enter politics. He became part of president
Boris Yeltsin's administration in 1996 and rose through the ranks very quickly
to become acting president December 31st, 1999.
When Yeltsin. He then won the 2000 presidential election and
was reelected in 2004. The constitutional term limits kept him from having a
consecutive third term, but he served as prime minister to Dmitri Medvedev
starting in 2008 and was then reelected as president in 2009. Even though he
enjoys high domestic approval ratings and is widely recognized as one of the
world's most powerful leaders.
He is a controversial figure who has made unpopular
political decisions and has been accused of corruption. And most recently of
